Brazilian Jiu-jitsu's Pins/Control Positions
The Guard Position:
Being
on the bottom in a fight is never a favorable situation. Unfortunately
due to circumstance or skill level, it is not always in your control.
But if you are on the bottom this is the place you want to be.
The guard involves controlling your opponent with your legs in
a variety of ways, either by wrapping your legs around their waist
or by placing your feet on your opponent’s hips.
This allows you to effectively protect yourself from strikes
and submission holds, while providing you with the means to reverse
positions, strike, or transition into a variety of submission
holds.
|
Side Control Position:
Side
control is a top control position that involves controlling your
opponent’s upper body with your upper body, while your legs
are free and clear of their legs. Side control provides you the
means to strike, apply submission holds while providing the opportunity
to systematically transition into a better position.
|
The Mount Position:
The
mount involves controlling your opponent primarily with your legs.
By placing one knee on the ground on either side of their chest,
this allows you to sit up and strike your opponent while maintaining
control with your lower body. The mount is an excellent position
to apply different submission holds.
