World Champion Sheila Bird and Bronze medalist Nick Ring at Fila World Chamionships December 11-13, 2009

With 2 gruelling days of coaching by Canadian Head Coach Brian Bird and competing  Sheila Bird, Nick Ring and John Louro the Canadian team came in 3rd place at the Fila World Championships.

Sheila Bird:

Gold medal in the Gi 63kg weight division submitting MMA fighter Shayna Blazser with a choke for the Gold medal match. Sheila also took home 2 Bronze medals in the No-Gi 63kg and open weight division facing a Olympian Silver medalist for wresting and defeating MMA fighter Misha Tate in the final. It was awesome to have the Canadian anthem played while Sheila stood on the podium securing the only Gold medal for the Canadian team.

Nick Ring:

Bronze medalist in the No-Gi 84kg weight division and open weight class.

John Louro:

John lost is Bronze medal match against a fellow Canadian team member. He had a great performance considering he has just recovered from a serious shoulder injury. John took home the Bronze medal at the 2008 Fila World Championship. He was close this time, with numerous submission attempts in his final fight, but he was down a point and couldn't quite pull out the win.
