King of the Mat Grappling Open results
The KIng of the Mat Grappling Open was a huge success! This was the first tournament run in Canada under the FILA Grappling rules. These are the rules that FILA is in the process of trying to get recognized by the International Olympic Committee with the goal of having Grappling as a spectator sport for the 2012 Olympics.
I want to give a huge thanks to the competitors, officials and many volunteers for making it possible. There were 91 competitors in total which was fantastic support for our first tournament.

I also want to thank Clint Kingsbury (Developmental Director for the Canadian Amateur Wrestling Association) for travelling from Toronto to oversee this tournament as a Fila clinician. Clint worked with, observed, and evaluated the referees. Six of the officials (Mike Short, Marsha Burnett, Charles Teixeira, Grant Guenther, Justin Glavish, Kelly Sigethy) were endorsed by Clint to become National Grappling Officials. Congratulations.
