September 12, 2009. Results from MMA "Rumble in the Cage", Kickboxing Canadian Team Trials and FCC Grappling tournament.

Congratulations to all the competitors from BDB Martial Arts that competed today. We had 4 fighters in MMA in "Rumble in the Cage 36", 2 Kickboxer's in the Canadian Team Trials, and 3 grapplers in FCC Grappling Tournament. Not very many teams can say they have so my competitors in so many different styles all competing on the same day. That is just another reason our team rocks!!

I would like to thank Doug and Brad Cardinal for taking the time to drive out to Lethbridge to help the fighters. Doug is Nick's boxing coach and he has been helping our fighters in the corner by being the cut man and mending the fighters in the the corner all night. He had to fix up some bloody noses and puffy eyes. It was great to have Brad at the fights to tape hands, warm fighters up and corner.

We have a strong team at BDB Martial Arts not only because of the competitors but because of everyone who comes to watch the fights and support the fighters, the coaches, picture takers and training partners.

MMA:

Nick Ring wins by TKO from Mount in about 2 minutes mark of round 1 against opponent Chester Post from Toronto. Nick came out landing some hard cut kicks but then progressed to taking the fight to the ground. Nick immediately controlled top position and punished his opponent with strikes from the mount.

Chris Brown wins by TKO from Mount in about 4 minute mark of round 2. (This fight was a back and forth war with many people commenting it could have been fight of the night). Chris showed incredible mental toughness in this match and fighting through some rough spots to come out in the end with a dominating mounted finish with some heavy strikes.

Josh Kitchen wins by TKO from Mount in about 1 minute mark of round 1. This was Josh's first MMA fight going hard right away and getting a lots of solid shots in.

Matt Bagshaw lost a tough fight by TKO in round one. This was a back and forth match with both fighters having rocked one another through out the round. Matt was caught with a good body shot and the ref stopped the match. Tough loss as this was Matts first loss (7-1) but he will come back stronger from this.

Kick Boxing:

I do not have to many details of this yet but both Troy Kulasekere and Ryan Hoskins did not make it to the final. I was told they performed well and had good fights.

Grappling / BJJ:

Andrew Derry competed in 4 divisions and took home 3 Bronze and 1 Silver.

Erin took home silver in his No-Gi division.

Patrick Mitchell competed in his weight class in No-Gi and took home gold with all matches won by submission!

Congratulation to all who competed. You are warriors and great representations of our team.
