Lethbridge Submission Tournament Results August 16th, 2008

The following BDBMA competitors competed on the weekend in Lethbridge:

Kyle Coleman, Bryce Willis, Adrian Clapa, Sheila Bird, Mike Dubas, Fabian Cortez, Ben Borger, Chris Horton

Highlights of the day:

Chris Horton had the best take downs of our team with 2 huge hip throws and a textbook foot sweep and finished 2 of his matches with the anaconda rolling choke.

Mike Dubas. This was his first grappling tournament ever and he had 9 matches. He won 7 fights with the triangle arm choke from mount, 1 fight he won by forearm choke across the neck and he had one draw. He came in 1st place ahead of MMA fighter Andrew Buckland (Gracie Barra) who came in 2nd.

Sheila Bird competed in a mixed division (2 guys, 2 girls), winning her first match with a flying armbar and then continued on to win gold.

Fabian Cortez competed well and pulled off 2 of his trade mark knee bars and an ankle lock, proving again why he is feared for his leg locks.

Bryce Willis. This was his 2nd tournament and he showed dramatic improvement with his conditioning and confidence winning one of his matches with a mounted triangle and taking home gold for the division.

Ben Borger fought 4 matches, winning 2 fights by bent armlocks. He won gold in his division.

Adrian Clapa fought 2 matches but an existing rib injury stopped him from continuing on.

Kyle Coleman had the largest division with the most fights. He showed his wrestling skills over and over again easily taking down most of his opponents, passing their guards and controlling top position.

Results:

Sheila Bird: 1st place in 145lbs and under
Mike Dubas: 1st place in 185 - 205lbs
Ben Borger and Bryce Willis: Tied for 1st place in 205lbs and over

This was the first outing of our Jiu-Jitsu competition team that trains regularly Wednesday night at 8:00pm. We will be reviewing the fights and continually making our team stronger. We are looking forward to the next opportunity to represent.

Thanks to Kelly Sigethy and Justin Glavish for coming out to support the team. Both guys have been training hard but were unable to compete due to injury but came to support the team and help coach.
