Sheila Bird wins MMA bout at “Rumble In The Cage” in Lethbridge February 18, 2006

Sheila walked away victorious from her first MMA bout. She won via TKO at 2:50 into round 1 against a competitive Jamie Noji.

Prior to the bout Sheila was set to make an impression, sporting a hot pink hair-do she entered the cage to the song “Hollaback Girl” by Gwenn Stafani.

The round started with Sheila displaying her stand up skills, throwing a vicious series of cut kicks, punches and knees. The first couple minutes the fight was non stop action with Jamie Noji keeping the match competitive, forcing Sheila to work hard for the win.  Jamie took a number of solid punches and knees yet she continued to come back strong with her own striking. Jamie attempted a throw and Sheila countered by slipping to Jamie’s back and establishing the back mount position. After a few undefended punches the referee called a stop to the match at 2:50 into the first round.

A total of 26 BDB Martial Arts members and friends drove down to Lethbridge to support Sheila in her first MMA fight.  With a crowd of about 3,000 people, it was great to have our own cheering section. Thank you to all who came out and rooted for Sheila as she took home her first MMA victory.

Thank you to all the guys and gals at the club that helped Sheila with her training to get her ready for this fight.  Our fighters appreciate when everyone helps out by attending MMA, BJJ or Muay Thai classes, and providing them with as many training partners as possible for sparring and preparation.

Keep an eye out for the new Kickstart Magazine coming out in March 2006 for a full-page write up about Sheila Bird.
